For the Office of Public Affairs of the Bahá’ís of
India, the purpose of its participation in public
discourses is not to persuade others to accept a
Bahá’í position on one or the other issue. Nor is
effort in this area intended as a public relations
activity or an academic exercise. Rather, Bahá’ís
strive to engage in sincere conversations with other
social actors based on the conviction that
advancement in thought on fundamental issues
requires a genuinely collaborative process of
collective deliberation and learning. In its
contributions, the Office strives to draw upon the
spiritual teachings on various social and economic
issues and the learning from the experience of the
Indian Bahá’í community in striving to apply these
teachings for the betterment of the world.
Over the past few years, the Office
of Public Affairs has been engaging
in conversations with various actors
exploring how the spiritual
teachings of religion can be applied
for the betterment of society.
The equality between women and men
is one of the fundamental principles
derived from the conviction in the
oneness of humankind as a spiritual
reality.
The role of the media in building a
united and just society has been the
subject of ongoing conversations
with media practitioners and media
educators.
The Office of Public Affairs represents the
Bahá’í community of India in communications
with the government and civil society
concerning the persecution of Bahá’ís in
Iran and Yemen.
For more than four decades, the government
of the Islamic Republic of Iran has
persecuted Iranian Bahá’ís, who comprise the
country’s largest non-Muslim religious
minority.
